At Moonta Dental we routinely place amalgam-free, "white" fillings.
We can arrange for extractions, especially of wisdom teeth, to be removed comfortably and safely under IV Sedation or General Anaesthetic in partnership with Adelaide based dental surgeons.
Our diet and lifestyle has a huge impact on our teeth. A filling is when material is placed into the tooth in order to replace missing tooth structure or substance, they are also used when teeth have small to moderate decay or fractures to restore tooth function. If you have already had a filling, pressure from chewing, grinding or clenching can cause existing fillings to crack, chip or wear. You may not know that old fillings are wearing down but regular dental checks can help you identify issues early. There are various different filling options that may be available to you and we can even replace your amalgam (metal) fillings with tooth coloured fillings to enhance your appearance.
Dental crowns are a long term solution for damaged, broken, fractured, weak or chipped teeth, and can improve biting abilities. Crowns are colour matched to ensure the best, most natural looking and aesthetically pleasing result. They are made of a very durable, long lasting material which covers your remaining tooth structure. Crowns are made in a laboratory and are custom-fit solutions to heavily broken down teeth that are considerably stronger than regular filling materials. They are made to protect teeth that have been damaged through wear and tear, fractures or tooth decay and used to protect the tooth from further damage. Some patients choose crowns to improve the colour, shape or position of a tooth or multiple teeth. If your dentist recommends a crown, it's probably to correct one of these issues. Crowns may be made from several materials, including gold, porcelain with metal, or porcelain only. Each material is chosen for different situations so speak to your dentist about which type of crown will be most suitable for you.
Dental implants are a strong, comfortable and good looking alternative when you have a gap to fill - we provide a referral service to Adelaide based surgeons who can perform this complex treatment under IV sedation.
A hygiene appointment is a very important part of routine oral care. At your regular dental check-up, you will undergo an examination and hygiene which includes removing calculus build up on your teeth and removing superficial stains and the application of agents which help to prevent decay. Your dentist will also discuss with you home care techniques and suggest products that are ideal for your specific situation. Dental health education is very important to us at Grenfell Street Dental, so if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your dentist. Regular dental hygiene appointments combined with effective plaque removal techniques at home play an important part in the prevention of gum disease. The whole hygiene procedure takes around 45 minutes and will leave with that clean feeling to help you smile with confidence.
Periodontitis, or gum disease is most commonly a preventable condition; the Australian Dental Association reports that gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in Australia. Gum disease refers to damage to the supporting tissues of the teeth which can involve the surface tissues which you can see but also the bone tissues, root surface and the ligament that connects your bone to your tooth.
Some signs of gum disease include red, swollen, painful or bleeding gums. Additionally, if you have persistent bad breath, this is also a common sign. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, please speak to your dentist to help formulate an appropriate treatment plan if required.
If you've always wanted straighter teeth, Invisalign is an alternative to braces & may be right for you.
